How to mark work

Marking and feedback are central to the Propello teaching cycle. Once students submit work, you can quickly review their answers, award marks, and provide constructive feedback. Some tasks are auto-marked, while others require manual grading. You also have flexible tools to reassign work, adjust scores, and leave personalised comments — helping you support every learner effectively.

How to mark work

Follow these steps to mark student submissions:

  1. Go to the Check tab
Open the class list and locate the assignment you want to mark.

  2. Open student submissions

    • Click View to see all submissions, or

    • Click the blue list/magnifying glass icon (appears when marking is required).

  3. Auto-marked vs manual marking

    • Auto-marked → Multiple-choice and retrieval quizzes are marked automatically.

    • Manual marking → Written responses display as “NA” until you add a score and feedback.

  4. Add scores and comments
Select a student, review their responses, and enter marks along with written feedback.

  5. Optional: Reassign work
Click Reassign if you want the student to retry the task before final submission.

  6. Click Submit
Finalise marks so students can view their scores and feedback.

⚠️ Work in progress is auto-saved, but students will only see results once you click Submit.

💡 Use reassignment when you want students to improve their answers. Propello keeps a record of both original and resubmitted attempts for easy comparison.
